Looking for a European alternative to Auth0 or Okta? FoxIDs brings user management, single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) together in a Danish-owned identity platform developed in Denmark. FoxIDs is ISO 27001 certified and offers European Cloud hosting, self-hosted and hybrid deployment.

Compare FoxIDs with cidaas, Bare.ID, Keycloak and Curity for customer, partner and employee application login.

Why choose FoxIDs

FoxIDs combines European ownership with a flexible platform for modern and existing applications:

  • Users, login and SSO: manage accounts in FoxIDs or connect users through external identity providers. Support customer identity and access management (CIAM), partner access and employee login.
  • MFA that fits your users: use authenticator apps and configure additional authentication steps for the login journeys that need them.
  • Your login experience: customise branding, texts and login flows for your applications and users.
  • Open standards: integrate through OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, SAML 2.0 and WS-Federation. Add protocol bridging when applications and identity providers use different supported protocols.
  • A choice of operating model: use FoxIDs Cloud, run FoxIDs in your own environment or combine Cloud and customer-controlled environments in a hybrid deployment.

Customers can sign in with accounts managed in FoxIDs while partners use their existing identity provider. Your application connects to FoxIDs in both cases.

An application and API connect to FoxIDs using OIDC and OAuth 2.0. FoxIDs provides SSO and MFA with a choice of local user accounts or an external identity provider.
One application connection, different ways to sign in: FoxIDs accounts or an external identity provider. The arrows show the sign-in request direction, not a complete protocol exchange.

GDPR, NIS2 and ISO 27001

Security and compliance should be part of the platform decision from the start. FoxIDs provides concrete capabilities and documentation for that decision:

  • GDPR: European cloud hosting, a data processing agreement and documented processing arrangements give you a clear basis for handling identity data.
  • NIS2: MFA, access controls and audit logging provide technical measures for securing and monitoring identity access.
  • ISO 27001: FoxIDs is certified, with the certificate freely available from the FoxIDs Trust Center.

Five identity platforms to consider

The comparison focuses on application login, SSO and MFA.

Platform Origin and operating model Main distinction ISO 27001
FoxIDs Denmark; European Cloud, self-hosted and hybrid EU-owned platform for users, SSO, MFA and application integration across modern and existing protocols Certified
cidaas Germany; managed cloud Customer, partner and workforce identity with SSO, MFA and consent management Certified operation
Bare.ID Germany; cloud, self-hosted, on-premises and hybrid Keycloak-based platform with additional enterprise functions for employees, customers and partners Certified processes
Keycloak Open-source project; self-hosted or operated by a service provider Direct control of an open-source IAM platform and its configuration Depends on the operator
Curity Sweden; customer-operated cloud, on-premises and hybrid deployment Application authentication and API security built around OAuth and OpenID Connect Certified

Keycloak is software, not an EU-owned hosting company. A European managed provider such as Cloud-IAM can operate it for you. Cloud-IAM reports ISO 27001 certification; the hosting provider and region depend on the selected deployment.

The ISO 27001 entries reflect the suppliers' published certification information and concern their organisation or operation, not every customer installation.

Move from Auth0 or Okta in stages

You do not have to move every application and user at once. FoxIDs can connect to an existing identity provider during transition, while you move application integrations and decide how each user group should sign in.

The Auth0 migration guide and Okta migration guide cover the relevant user-import and password options. Existing passwords can only be retained where the source and migration approach support it. The FoxIDs team can help with integration, migration and go-live.
